The completely redesigned Optima, sharing the same platform as its sibling Hyundai i40, named the Kia K5 in the South Korean and China market, made its world debut at the 2010 New York Auto Show.

Is this the oil sensor? Confirmation.

The car is throwing oil level lights periodically while the car is in motion. I did the usual checks where I checked for codes (none), then tried contact cleaner on the connectors under the engine to see if maybe oil caused a bad connection.

I say this because since this one has the TGDI 2L Theta II it has some possible oil consumption issuses. However it is very little and only really shows when you do the oil changes so I do not think the oil is low as when I have checked it is always full or near full with little to no loss in oil capacity.

At this point I am pretty sure it’s the oil sensor given I checked the levels multiple times, found no codes and cleaned the contacts with contact cleaner on both ends.

I already have a source for the part so finding it is not an issue. I just need to confirm I have the right location. If there wasn't some residual short block warranty on this thing since it's a Theta II 2L, I'd have sourced it aftermarket.

In lieu of a reliable SM I can read the entire thing on (that isn't selective) I did test it the old fashioned way. I got a P0198, but it also threw some chassis codes (B1603 and B2519). I'm going to see, but it might be a match.

I did clear the codes after trying to replicate the failure.

Sounds like you are doing all the right things.

I don't know what the numbers are, but those sensors are neg resistance. You could try to test is by measuring the resistance, then boiling it and watch how the resistance changes. It should go steadily down. However, if it is intermittent, it would be harder to verify.

Also, since it is an oil temp sensor, it might be a cooling issue and the sensor is working properly.

Unfortunately, It could be other things also. Just to make life difficult.

Yeah, Hyundai SMs are almost nonexistent :-(. It's intermittent so there's no good way to test it. Best that can be done is to try and order it for $30 and put some miles on the car to see if it stays back.

I don't believe it's the inconclusive oil consumption, but honestly, if it is, this is the second Hyundai* engine I've seen do it.

*In this case, it's based on a Hyundai Sonata but with a Kia badge.
